  • Hand Caning Both seats and backs are hand caned. The frame of the chair will have holes drilled through, and you can see the cane looping through the holes on the bottom of the frame. Standard hand caning is a 7 step process.
  • Blind Caning is usally done on backs and arms. It is the same proceess as hand caning but the holes in the frame are not drilled through. Each strand of cane must be glued into the holes.
  • Rush Seats are woven with paper(fiber) rush, real rush(cattails) and pretwisted rush(seagrass which resemble real rush). Most chairs that rush weaving is done on have 4 round seat rails.
  • Danish Cord is a very durable twisted paper product. Seats and backs can be woven. Orginal Danish cord seats have L-nails inserted on the inside of the frames, that the cord is wrapped around.
  • Splint Weaving both seats and backs can e woven. True splints can be made of hickory, ash, and oak. Other materials used include binder cane, flat or oval reed. I don't recommend using the reeds as their durabiltiy is very limited. The most common patterns woven are herringbone and New England porch weave.
  • Shaker Tape is made from cotton and comes in solid or striped colors. It can be woven on most chairs that have a round rung as the seat frame. The tape comes in 5/8in and 1in widths. Colors vary with availability.
  • Wicker furniture Repair Wicker furniture is a type of weaving including rattan round reed, fiber cord, willow and plastic resin. we do not do willow due to the problem of obatining materials. the plastic resin wicker material is available but many times it will not match in color or design.
